How this practice collects, uses and protects personal information, in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Dr I O Vawda Paediatric Practice is the responsible party for the personal information described in this policy. In terms of POPIA, Dr Ismail Osman Vawda, as head of the practice, is the Information Officer.
This website has no contact forms, no booking system and no login. You cannot submit personal details through it, and we do not ask you to. Appointments are arranged by telephoning the rooms.
The website uses two measurement tools that tell us how many people visit and which pages are useful. Neither is used for advertising, and neither collects any medical or health information.
Privacy-first and cookieless. It records page views, the page visited, the type of device and browser, and the country. It does not use cookies, does not store your IP address, and cannot track you across other websites. Because it does not identify you, it runs on every visit.
Uses cookies, so it only runs if you press Accept on the cookie notice. It records pages viewed, approximate location (usually town or city level), device and browser, and how you arrived at the site. IP addresses are anonymised. If you decline, it is never loaded at all.
The only cookies this site sets are the Google Analytics cookies described above, and only after you press Accept. Nothing is set beforehand. Declining costs you nothing: every page works exactly the same either way.
You may change your mind at any time. Your choice is stored in your own browser, so you can also clear it by clearing your browser data.

This is separate from the website. When you telephone, email or visit the practice, we collect the information needed to care for your child and to administer the consultation. This typically includes your child's name, date of birth and contact details, the details of the parent or guardian, medical aid membership details, and the clinical information recorded during care.
Health information is treated as special personal information under POPIA. It is used to provide medical care, to keep proper clinical records, to submit medical aid claims, and to meet legal and professional obligations. It is not used for marketing, and it is never sold.
Clinical records are kept confidential in line with POPIA, the Health Professions Council of South Africa's rules and the National Health Act, and are retained for the periods those rules require.
This is a paediatric practice, so most of the information we hold concerns children. POPIA gives the personal information of a child extra protection, and it is processed on the authority of a parent or legal guardian, described in the Act as a competent person.
This website is written for parents and guardians. It is not aimed at children, and it does not knowingly collect information from them.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for advertising. Information is shared only where it is necessary, and then only with:

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse. Clinical records are kept secure at the rooms and access is limited to those who need it to do their work. This website is served entirely over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).

Some clinical records must be kept for a minimum period by law, so a request to delete them cannot always be granted. Where that applies, we will explain why.

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if the practice starts using a new service. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Please check back occasionally.
